Hi, Reader!
Happy Virgo season ya'll! I'm so excited for Virgo season because it's been motivating me to go back to my roots of holistic nutrition. Virgo understands that the body is a temple, and trusts it above all else. Expansion for Virgo often comes through the body. In this week's episode of the pod, I go back to how my health journey all began: when I learned about my food intolerances.
Growing up, my parents used to rush me to the ER because I had such severe stomach aches. This happened often, and every time the doctors would send me home and tell my parents nothing was wrong with me.
Little did we know, the root of all my pain (for 25 years might I add) was as simple as this: what I was eating.
I grew up in an Italian-American family. We had pasta often, along with a baguette with pretty much every meal. Eating gluten, dairy, and garlic were staples in our everyday diet.
You can imagine that when these came back as my top 3 intolerances from my food sensitivity test, I was shooketh. I actually cried for 20 minutes in my car before heading to work when I found out because I didn't know any other way to eat. Pizza was my favorite food. I didn't know how to cook. I worked 50+ hour weeks so convenience was everything to me.
But I knew I had to make a drastic change, and so I did. Now that I knew what was giving me constant digestive discomfort, I just could not ignore it. I bought myself a Paleo cookbook, taught myself how to cook, and made it a priority to nourish my body and give it the foods it wanted, and take away what it didn't. It was the very beginning of my path to healing.
And you know what? I'm so grateful for my food intolerances. If it weren't for my body, I wouldn't have found my first passion for holistic nutrition, I wouldn't have discovered that I absolutely love to cook, and I wouldn't have understood what it finally felt like to feel good in my body; that stomach aches and brain fog didn't have to be my norm. It changed my life.
I talk about this and so much more in this week's episode of the pod, as well as why I eat the way that I eat (animal-based).
This episode also covers:
-Why you should never take an at-home food sensitivity test
-Differences between food allergies and food sensitivities
-What I eat in a day
-Releasing perfection around eating
-High protein meal ideas
-Tips for getting intentional and present when cooking
-Sourcing quality foods: the importance of grass-fed and finished, regeneratively raised meats
-Health benefits of grass-fed and finished meats & grass-fed butter
-The truth about plant-based meat alternatives
-What drives weight loss
As we enter into Virgo season I encourage you to get intentional about reconnecting with your body.
What is it trying to tell you? Has it been trying to communicate with you for a while?
Now more than ever is the time to listen.
xo,
Jess
